Physical
In-Person Course

“There are many things that I enjoyed about the training with Brendon, but some include:

  1. Brendon’s ability to convey complex topics and sensitive information is admirable. You make it so easy to learn.

  2. Brendon’s relaxed approach and non-judgemental style really encouraged me to participate actively.

  3. The pace: It's surprising how much we were able to cover because nothing felt rushed or overlooked.

  4. I loved the case studies. These really consolidated my learning and encouraged us to think/appraise what we had learned.”

- Lysia Gregory, Head of Physiotherapy, South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust who arranged for 15 Mental health allied health professionals to attend the two day training.

What will it cover?

This course will cover the latest cutting-edge science and its applications in the following areas:

  • What is physical activity and how is this different from exercise?

  • How much exercise should people do and does the type matter?

  • What factors should I consider when developing an exercise program for someone’s mental health?

  • What is the evidence, application and how do I use this for people with:

    • Depression

    • Anxiety and stress related disorders

    • Serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia spectrum

    • Eating disorders

  • When is exercise not suitable and how can I spot and support such people?

  • What motivation and behaviour strategies can I use?

  • What is the broader role of lifestyle psychiatry (e.g. nutrition, reducing harmful substance) in supporting people with mental illness?

  • How can I measure what matters and show my interventions are working?

Importantly, this training focusses on critical thinking around the evidence and how this can be applied through many case studies.
